On the Hill

Description

Traveling along the beautiful beach road from Monterey to San Francisco in Spring 2015, I found a small hill by the highway, and walking up it, noticed a pathway lined with poppies and traces of water on the road. Under the sunny and a bit windy weather, the wild bushes had bent in the wind. I wanted to capture the impression straight away and finished the painting a month or so later.

Painting: Oil and Ink on Canvas.

Inviting the viewer into a less familiar environment, the simple compositions allow the paint to speak. The work explores a diverse approach to oil painting: borrowing traditions and exploring processes in order to investigate different ways of controlling and engaging with the viewer. The tension between the silent, geometric structures and the rhythm of nature create a disquieting unease that can allude to the Uncanny. This body of work is a direct development from the Borderline Project, exploring the relationships between architecture, design and the tradition of oil painting

The Queensferry Crossing, a bridge to the future
The spectacular Queensferry Crossing over The Forth near Edinburgh is an experience not to be missed and the sight has inspired me to paint its 'portrait' and publish prints and cards, see: harleymiller.com/queensferrycrossing.html

Painting: Acrylic, Ink, Digital, Paint and Color on Canvas.

When I am walking around outside in the nature, by investigating my path and my creativity, there is suddenly a spark that catches my eyes, that I can reflect to its shapes, texture, and to its colors. And this starts a creative process in me.
Then I will search for a female figure with a unique look with some of mysterious, which can be best for me to draw and to paint.
After that I will use some digital painting programs in order to draw and sketch and to integrate the nature elements, texture and the colors that all together reflect out of this process.
After the digital process I print the digital artwork on canvas, and then start a process that is more traditional, by using brushes with acrylic, ink, graphite, color pencil, aerosol paints, and whatever that is necessary for the final result. Then put an over varnish laqa to protect as necessary.
My art is integrating the beauties of the nature with a mysterious femininity that wraps it.
