About Artist

Teresa Cox

“My paintings are a vibrant and compressed dialogue between the natural world that we know and an invented landscape that re-imagines its elements. Fragments of natural and geometric forms are distilled, isolated and morphed into new shapes and configured into quasi-landscapes with emphasis on fantasy, movement and metaphor." Teresa Cox is a native of the Twin Cities and lives within the landscape of the Minnesota and Mississippi river valleys. Her practice includes painting and public work with installations in the US across from the Mall of America, Winona University, Abbott Northwestern Hospital, the DECC in Duluth among others. Cox’s paintings and drawings have been exhibited nationally and abroad including the Albuquerque Museum of Art in New Mexico, the DeVos Art Museum in Michigan, the Drawing Center in Chelsea, New York and the Fortezza da Basso in Florence, Italy. Her work is in public and private collections in the US, Taiwan, Germany and Australia. Education: BS Studio Arts. Painting and Drawing. University of Wisconsin, Stout. Studio Arts University of Minnesota.

Painting: Oil on Canvas. An isolated mature female, that is painted in a classical pose (but using contemporary colour palette), attempts to let an audience determine if she is diminishing or appearing from the background through using angular, blocked brushstrokes that juxtapose the vertical, water-like background.
